The Final Destination franchise is back on the big screen after 14 years with Final Destination Bloodlines, and it seems absence truly does make fans fonder of horror franchises.
Final Destination Bloodlines scared up the highest opening for the franchise by a wide margin, debuting in theaters with $51 million domestically and $102 million worldwide!
That makes the Warner Bros. movie the #1 movie at the box office at the time of this article being published, with the film on a fast track to quicky become the series’ highest grossing.
Here are the opening weekend numbers for all films in the franchise so far…
- Final Destination (2000) – $10 million domestic opening
- Final Destination 2 (2003) – $16.2 million domestic opening
- Final Destination 3 (2006) – $20.21 million domestic opening
- The Final Destination (2009) – $27.4 million domestic opening
- Final Destination 5 (2011) – $18 million domestic opening
- Final Destination Bloodlines (2025) – $51 million domestic opening
As Discussing Film notes, the $51 million U.S. debut for Final Destination Bloodlines gives it the “biggest opening for a R-rated horror movie this decade,” with the franchise’s sixth installment set to become the highest grossing movie in the entire saga in the coming days. The current record holder there is The Final Destination with a $186 million haul back in 2009.
With Bloodlines proving that audiences are hungrier than ever to experience Death’s twisted sense of justice, it seems like a sure thing that the wait for the next one won’t be quite as long as the 14 year gap between Final Destination 5 and Final Destination 6. In fact, we’d expect that Warner Bros. will be announcing Final Destination 7 before summer comes to an end.
Stay tuned for more on all things Final Destination.
