One of the most iconic horror movie theme songs of all time is Killer Klowns from The Dickies, which is of course the main theme for 1988 horror-comedy Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Speaking of that film’s equally beloved musical score, that was composed by John Massari, and Massari has today released his own punk-style cover of the classic Dickies song!
From Massari’s alt-metal band JM, the punk cover of The Dickies’ Killer Klowns has been released today in celebration of the 37th anniversary of the Chiodo Brothers’ horror classic.
In fact, JM will be releasing two officially licensed covers of The Dickies’ iconic theme song, the punk/metal hybrid today, and also a shred-heavy ’80s metal version later this month.
JM first delivers a high-octane metal/punk hybrid, while lead guitarist Jonathan Padilla unleashes an ’80s metal shred fest that reimagines the theme with cinematic firepower.
Massari’s version dropped today, to be followed by Padilla’s edition on Friday, May 30, and both come with original, custom cover art created exclusively for this release.
JM has secured official licensing for both versions of the cult-classic theme, originally composed by Dickies founding member Leonard Phillips. He previews, “These new takes on the Killer Klowns anthem honor the original and amplify its spirit for a new generation.”
