Well, this is another case where you knew it was coming. Kinetic Games has announced a live-action adaptation of Phasmophobia is currently in development. Fittingly, the film will be produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, which are no strangers to video game to film adaptations, thanks to Emma Tammi‘s Five Nights at Freddy’s and its upcoming sequel.
“We’re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development – it’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting,” said Daniel Knight, director of Kinetic Games, and Lead Developer of Phasmophobia. “We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.”
To say that Phasmophobia has been a success for Kinetic Games is an understatement. Since its Early Access launch back in 2020, Phasmophobia has surpassed 23 million in global sales across PC and consoles, and has become a genre-defining title in multiplayer horror gaming. Kinetic Games’ efforts earned Phasmophobia the Best Debut Game award at The 2020 Game Awards.
No word yet on the director for the adaptation as of yet.
Meanwhile, Kinetic Games recently announced a massive overhaul to the game in the “Chronicle” Update, which arrives June 24 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and PS VR2, and the Xbox Series.
