Over 3 Million People Watched ‘JAWS’ on NBC This Past Friday Night

NBC celebrated the 50th anniversary of JAWS this past Friday night with a special network presentation of the classic film featuring a brand new introduction from Steven Spielberg, and audiences showed up and tuned in to watch Bruce gobble up Amity’s finest.

As reported by Programming Insider, 3.261 million people tuned into NBC on Friday night, June 20 to watch JAWS, a testament to the movie’s enduring power all these decades later.

The NBC Movie Special event airing of JAWS ran for 3 hours from 8pm until 11pm ET, and it was the top rated prime time telecast of the whole night, beating programs like “Jesse Watters Primetime,” “Gutfeld!” and “Hannity” on Fox News, as well as “20/20” on ABC, “Celebrity Jeopardy” on ABC, “Fire Country” on CBS, and WWE’s “Friday Night Smackdown” on USA.

The shark, it would seem, is still working like a charm fifty years later!

You can read the full ratings breakdown over on Programming Insider.

What else can you expect for the JAWS 50th anniversary this Summer? A new documentary titled Jaws at 50: The Definitive Inside Story comes to National Geographic on July 10 followed by Hulu and Disney+ on July 11, while you can now grab JAWS on 50th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD. Special events will also be taking place on Martha’s Vineyard all Summer long.

Various collectibles will be going up for grabs as well, including a 50th anniversary “Movie Maniacs” figure from McFarlane Toys and even a JAWS Hot Wheels collectible from Mattel!
