‘Strange Harvest’ Trailer and Poster Warns That Sadistic Killer Mr. Shiny is Waiting [Exclusive]

A serial killer’s grisly murder spree might lead to supernatural terror in the faux-true crime documentary Strange Harvest from Grave Encounters writer-director Stuart Ortiz.

Saban Films and Roadside Attractions will unleash Strange Harvest in theaters on August 8, 2025, and we can exclusively debut the eerie trailer and poster.

In the film, “Detectives are thrust into a chilling hunt for ‘Mr. Shiny’—a sadistic serial killer from the past whose return marks the beginning of a new wave of grotesque, otherworldly crimes tied to a dark cosmic force.”

Peter Zizzo and Terri Apple star as Detectives Joe Kirby and Lexi Taylor, who act as talking heads as they investigate the mysterious and elusive “Mr. Shiny,” a serial killer who leaves little in the way of clues despite the ghastly, horrific nature of his crimes spanning multiple years.

Watch the trailer below that introduces the elusive Mr. Shiny in action.

Andy Lauer,  Matthew Peschio, Janna Cardia, Travis Wolfe Sr., and Christina Helene Braa also star. Ortiz, Bruce Guido, Alex Yesilcimen, and Michael Karlin produce.

“I really wanted to push it as far as I could,” the filmmaker previously told BD of the gruesome horror. “I felt that the format, something about the true crime format, whether it’s listening to it on a podcast or watching a documentary, there’s something about it that is this safety blanket. It’s like this hand that can hold your hand and walk you through it. These true crime documentaries are all about giving context and commentary to an event that happened, usually in the past tense.”

I wrote in my review out of Fantastic Fest that Strange Harvestbrings the creep factor, an impressively gruesome display of crime scenes, and a skin-crawling villain with cosmic machinations in mind. Ortiz pushes the subgenre forward with a heady and unsettling immersion into the realm of true crime, with a distinctly horror twist. A post-credits scene only adds to the intrigue, instilling hope that Ortiz will continue to test the boundaries of found footage and faux documentary-styled horror.”

Strange Harvest is rated “R” for “disturbing/grisly violent content and language.”
