In case you haven’t heard, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws turns 50 this year. To commemorate the occasion, the seminal shark horror movie is getting an IMAX re-release next month.
Jaws swims onto IMAX screens on August 28, and tickets are on sale now.
In the classic film, “When the seaside community of Amity finds itself under attack by a dangerous great white shark, the town’s chief of police (Roy Scheider), a young marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and a grizzled shark hunter (Robert Shaw) embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again. Featuring an unforgettable score that evokes pure terror, Jaws remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history.”
Spielberg’s 1975 original summer blockbuster is written by Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb, based on Benchley’s 1974 novel.
It’s been a packed summer for Jaws’ 50th Anniversary celebrations. Most recently, 3.261 million people tuned into NBC on Friday night, June 20, to watch Jaws for its milestone anniversary. Later this month, all four Jaws films head to Netflix, ensuring that you have every possible way to revisit Spielberg’s breakout blockbuster sensation.
What else can you expect for the JAWS 50th anniversary this Summer? A new documentary titled Jaws at 50: The Definitive Inside Story comes to National Geographic on July 10, followed by Hulu and Disney+ on July 11, while you can now grab JAWS on 50th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD. Special events will also be taking place on Martha’s Vineyard all Summer long.
Various collectibles will be going up for grabs as well, including a 50th anniversary “Movie Maniacs“ figure from McFarlane Toys and even a JAWS Hot Wheels collectible from Mattel!
