EXCLUSIVE: New Clip from Religious Horror Movie ‘Shaman’ Hints At Something Demonic

shaman

So often, religious horror films are very focused on Catholic beliefs and Western ideas of religion. But in their new film, Shaman, director Antonio Negret and writer Daniel Negret want to tackle a different side of religion. Here, they center a missionary family in their story, a family that’s trying to convert Indigenous people in Ecuador. But the punishment for their hubris is swift, to say the least…

Read the film’s full synopsis below:

A missionary family travels to rural Ecuador to convert the indigenous population. All is going well until their son ventures into a forbidden local cave and comes back with a demonic spirit in tow. Candice (Sarah Canning) believes that an exorcism in the Catholic tradition will free her boy from the evil bonds that bind him. The local shamans know that this spirit is older than her religion and must be dealt with or the demon will take them all.

In our exclusive clip from the film, the family heads to a local ceremony in hopes of saving their son. But a strange symbol appears…

Watch now:

Sara Canning, Daniel Gillies, Jett Klyne, Humberto Morales, and Alejandro Fajardo star in the new horror film.

Shaman opens in theaters and on digital on August 8, 2025.
