I recently made Hell Motel my personality for a few weeks, and I started thinking about some of my other favorite doomed vacations. However, I have used Identity, Psycho, Superhost, and Vacancy in too many streaming guides before. So, I decided to make this article more of a challenge. While we’re still celebrating people who checked into the wrong damn place, it’s ghosts who are throwing the punches this time.
That’s right! I’m here to lead you to some haunted hotels that even the Travel Channel is afraid of. These guests are sure going to want to speak to a manager (if they survive), and I don’t blame them. So, kick back and watch some unsuspecting souls getting got by supernatural forces, vengeful spirits, and whatever else lives on that ghostly plane.

Where You Can Watch: Philo
An author who is known for debunking paranormal occurrences heads to room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel. I’m writing this from a non-haunted hotel in New York, where I have thought about this film every day of my stay. Not only is this movie creepy and full of reasons to complain to a manager. The hotel manager you would complain to is played by Samuel L. Jackson. While we love him, he isn’t usually the calming voice we want to hear while spirits are turning us upside down and bursting pipes. This evil hotel really put Mike (John Cusack) through it, and it could never be me. I am walking past the manager and taking this fight to the internet streets. I’m deducting a star for every poltergeist. I would also recommend calling the manager’s manager. Because I am not getting yelled at by any Sam Jackson character while my luggage is levitating in an alternate universe.

Where You Can Watch: Fandango at Home and Tubi
An obnoxious social media personality takes his crew to one of the most haunted hotels in America. We all love seeing annoying people catch supernatural hands. However, this was a little much. From the weird, dead people poplocking at the end of the hall to the mysterious cult artifacts they found, it’s a hard no from me. I would have called the manager over before the spirits started getting into the head of our editor. As if this half-star hotel didn’t do enough damage, the survivors were given takeout poltergeists. That’s right! They let people think they are safe at home, and then they surprise them like supernatural bedbugs. I want no part of this mess, but I think you should check out this found footage film. More importantly, you should think about this the next time you consider staying in a haunted hotel.

Where You Can Watch: Plex and Prime Video
A trio stumbles upon a weird inn with a wild secret. I was so caught up in the messy group dynamics that I almost forgot I was ghosthunting for this list. However, the old lady who manages this deadly establishment would have definitely heard from my lawyer! Right when you’re starting to think the danger might just be men (as usual), this movie takes a turn. We find out people are getting possessed after turndown service, and everything starts to make chaotic sense. Because this movie was made in the early 1980s, it’s a lot of white shenanigans shoved under the Windigo category. I have thoughts about that, and I will unpack them as I force this questionably bad movie onto friends. If you want a confusing, retro, and mildly creepy moment, then this is your girl. However, the hotel might not be the only thing you want to give a bad review for when it is over.

Where You Can Watch: Fandango at Home, Plex, Prime Video, The Roku Channel, Sling TV, and Tubi
Eight very different ghost stories spanning decades at a once grand English hotel. This hotel had eight different attempts to get its act together, and it chose violence each time. It also doesn’t just haunt guests, but also turns on various employees. Can you imagine ghosts snatching you up while you are making minimum wage? I have quit jobs for less, so it could never be me! As with most anthologies, not all of the stories are created (or executed) evenly. However, if you’re looking to add a British horror movie to your binge, you should check into the Great White Horse Hotel. I can promise you, it’ll end badly, though, because it’s a professionally haunted little place. You should know that you will be speaking to ghost managers when you have complaints. This might explain why this is the most affordable place I have ever seen in England.
Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (dir. Stephen Cognetti)
Where You Can Watch: AMC+ and Shudder
Cold case investigators stay at the Carmichael Manor and disappear after four nights in the cursed home. The only traces of them that remain are their footage that was left behind. While Hell House LLC is a franchise built on the foundation of a very haunted hotel, this fourth installment is my favorite sequel (thus far). While we can only assume how badly things turned out for this group, I hope they found this manager on their way to hell. He deserves to hear all of the reasons why he will be getting a one-star review for this stay. I also hope hell has a corporate office and a court of law. I believe everything that happens during this stay is illegal, even in the afterlife. Let me force close the app and just stay home because I don’t have time for all this mess.
Is your favorite haunted hotel on the list? Or did I miss it while looking for the managers at these hellish establishments? Let me know either way over at Bluesky.
