Mannequins are, by design, deeply uncanny figures. Modelled to look like humans, they certainly LOOK like us, but they certainly don’t feel like it. Writer and director John Berardo takes that to the next level in his new film, The Mannequin. Combining elements of the slasher and of the haunted object film, Berardo crafts something shockingly disturbing, especially in the cruelty of its kills.
In The Mannequin:
Liana Rojas, a creatively starved stylist assistant, discovers that the historical downtown Los Angeles factory building where her fashion designer sister mysteriously died is haunted by a serial killer posing as a headshot photographer for film studios who brutally murdered and dismembered his victims half a century earlier. This knowledge forces Liana and her friends to find a way to free themselves from the curse and escape the sinister ghost before they lose their own body parts.
