Oooooh, baby. Nothing’s sweeter than the sound of Silent Hill sirens with your coffee first thing in the morning. Good news for fog freaks today, as a new chapter in everyone’s favorite existential horror series is starting to take shape in the ashy mist. The first full-fledged trailer for Return to Silent Hill hath arrived, and this time it’s offering a direct peek through the skin sheets at Christophe Gans’ all-new journey into Konami’s fan-favorite franchise.
Set for a January 2026 theatrical release from Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, the new movie sequel revives the film series with a story built around Silent Hill 2 protagonist James—played by Jeremy Irvine—who’s dragged back to the town he hoped never to see again after an unexpected letter from the long-lost Mary (Hannah Emily Anderson of Dread’s own Dark Nature). What he finds is a rotting echo of his past, filled with decayed memories, deformed dead ends, and monstrous fiends straight out of your worst nightmares.
Evie Templeton (Wednesday) returns as Laura after her recent voice and motion-capture performance in Bloober Team’s highly acclaimed and successful remake of the Silent Hill 2 game for PS5. Visionary French director Gans directs from a script he co-wrote with Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider, marking his first return to the material since the excellent original 2006 Silent Hill film.
And for the nerds in the crowd, possibly the most exciting reunion here comes from composer Akira Yamaoka, whose rattling scores defined the original series of games and who returns to haunt the new adaptation like a dangling chain strung from the skies of hell. This guy is truly the GOAT and is reason enough to stay seated for Return to Silent Hill when it permeates cinemas in January.
