‘Send Help’ – Sam Raimi Calls His New Horror Film “Really Outrageous, Even for Me”

Filmmaker Sam Raimi and the term “outrageous” tend to go hand in hand. After all, we’re talking about the mind behind the wild Evil Dead franchise. The psychotic superhero film, Darkman. And the utterly insane Drag Me to Hell. Known as a director who takes big swings and features a uniquely frantic style that takes audiences on a ride, we expect Raimi to go a little nuts with his work.

Fans of Raimi’s should be excited then for what the director has to say about his new feature, Send Help, arriving next year from 20th Century Studios.

While sitting down with Empire, Sam Raimi described Send Help as, “A battle of wills. Its theme is that of power dynamics being turned on their head. The fellas [writing duo Damian Shannon and Mark Swift] pitched the story, and I laughed and couldn’t believe they were doing this. It was really outrageous, even for me, who makes outrageous horror films.

Too outrageous even for Sam Raimi? That’s hard to believe from the man who put that Evil Dead tree scene on screen. Still, from what we can tell in the trailer, Send Help certainly appears to be one bloody, primal tale intent on dragging the audience to Hell.

In Send Help, Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) and Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien), are two colleagues who find themselves stranded on a deserted island after surviving a plane crash. On the island, they must overcome past grievances and work together to survive, but ultimately, it becomes an unsettling and darkly humorous battle of wills and wits to make it out alive.

The film also stars Edyll Ismail (Ghosts: Australia), Dennis Haysbert (The Dark Tower), Xavier Samuel (Bait), Chris Pang (I, Frankenstein), Thaneth Warakulnukroh (Thai Cave Rescue), and Emma Raimi (Happy Pills).

Send Help crashes into theaters nationwide on January 30, 2026 from 20th Century Studios.
