Double “R”: Charlize Theron Thriller ‘Apex’ and ‘M3GAN’ Spinoff ‘SOULM8TE’ Get MPA Ratings

A new round of MPA ratings has been released, and we’ll start with the delayed M3GAN spinoff movie, SOULM8TE, which was supposed to hit theaters this past January but was pulled at the last second by Universal Pictures.

The film has been rated “R” by the MPA for “strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, and language.”

With a fresh MPA rating, will the Kate Dolan-directed SOULM8TE soon receive a fresh release date?

Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise, Monolith), Claudia Doumit (“The Boys”), and David Rysdahl star in the spinoff, being billed as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a “new technological twist.”

SOULM8TE follows along as “a man (Rysdahl) acquires an Artificially Intelligent android (Sullivan) to help him cope with the recent loss of his wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, the man inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.”

Obviously drawing on the classic 1932 film The Most Dangerous Game, where humans are hunted for sport, Netflix tracks down Charlize Theron for Apex, which joins the streaming service on April 24.

In the survival thriller, Theron plays a grieving woman seeking solace in the Australian wilderness who is hunted by a ruthless serial killer.

Taron Egerton (Carry-On) plays the killer, with Eric Bana (Deliver Us from Evil) also starring.

Today, the MPA shared the official rating, an “R” for “some strong violence, grisly images, nudity, and language.

Described as Free Solo meets The Silence of the Lambs, here’s the trailer.
