‘Halloween’ Director’s Next: ‘Supermax’ With Will Smith

Can I get a hallelujah? David Gordon Green is finally exiting the building. After three Halloween films and an embarrassingly bad take on The Exorcist, Green is taking his talents elsewhere, this time focusing on a murder mystery with Will Smith for Amazon MGM Studios.

Smith (Bad Boys: Ride or Die, I Am Legend) has just committed to star in DGG’s action-thriller Supermax, about two FBI agents investigating a murder inside the world’s most secure prison, reports Deadline.

In a deal reportedly valued around $70 million, Amazon MGM Studios has closed a worldwide rights agreement for the Miramax project, which marks Smith’s first major non-franchise studio feature in years.

The film is expected to debut as a streaming release rather than a theatrical title.

Additional casting is currently underway, with Smith’s FBI partner set as a female lead role.

Production is scheduled to begin in mid-August.

The screenplay is written by David Weil (Hunters, Invasion) and David J. Rosen (Hunters, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed).

Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing through The Picture Company, while Will Smith and Adam Fishbach will produce for Westbrook.
