Rumor Suggests J.J. Abrams is Developing a New ‘Constantine’ Film for Warner Bros.

While John Constantine continues to battle demons on “Legends of Tomorrow”, he first graced the big screen in 2005’s Constantine, which starred Keanu Reeves as the title character.

Now, with J.J. Abrams developing a “Justice League Dark” series for HBO Max, The Direct is reporting that they hear a live-action Constantine movie is in development at Warner Bros., with Bad Robot serving as the production company and Abrams attached as a producer.

While I don’t know or trust this website, I raised an eyebrow when Observer‘s Senior Entertainment Reporter Brandon Katz tweeted that he had also “heard some whispers about this.

If proven true, it would make some sense considering Abrams is hard at work on “Justice League Dark”, DC’s anti-hero team consisting of members from John Constantine to Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Doctor Mist, and many others. Could Abrams be building his own DC Universe for Warner Bros. and HBO Max? Sure, but let’s file this under rumor for the time being.

Last May, Keanu Reeves told Variety that he’d love to return as the cigarette-smoking exorcist and occult detective, saying: “I’ve always wanted to play John Constantine again. I just love that world, too, and I love that character. I just had a blast playing the character and (playing) in that world.”

Matt Ryan brought the character to the small screen in 2014 with NBC’s short-lived “Constantine.” He has continued to play him in various other live action & animated projects.
