It’s that time of the year again and the Toronto International Film Festival is helping us return to normal with their big-time first announcement, revealing two major genre films set to premiere at the event running Sept. 9-18.
In a huge reveal, Denis Villeneuve‘s highly anticipated Dune adaptation will screen as a “World Exclusive IMAX Special Event” at the Cinesphere Theatre at Ontario Place.
The film, based on Frank Herbert’s seminal novel and featuring an impressive all-star ensemble cast, will be showcased in Toronto and Montreal, in partnership with Warner Bros. Canada and venue partner Cineplex ahead of its October 1 release in theaters and on HBO Max.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The cast includes Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides, Josh Brolin‘s Gurney Halleck, Oscar Isaac‘s Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson‘s Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem‘s Stilgar, Zendaya‘s Chani, Sharon Duncan-Brewster‘s Liet-Kynes and Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho.
Also set to premiere is Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller Last Night in Soho, which Focus Features is releasing on October 22nd.
