Half-Life 2’s cancelled Ravenholm episode is still one of those “what might have been” additions to a classic game. And where Arkane left off, the fanbase has picked up and ran with it. That’s what modder 3stripedkilla aims to do with their Half-Life 2: Episode 2 mod We Don’t Go to Ravenholm.
Currently available as a demo, the We Don’t Go to Ravenholm mod is about “bringing players the familiar feel, atmosphere and action of the original Ravenholm from Half-Life 2.” The mod puts you in Gordon Freeman’s suit once again, but you’re stuck in the zombie-infested Ravenholm. The demo for the mod sees you making your way through an area of Ravenholm known as “Traptown”, which is host to plenty of zombies, as well as a plethora of traps.
Unlike in the original game, Gordon doesn’t have his trusty Gravity Gun with him in Ravenholm. So instead of being able to pick up and throw sawblades at zombies when you visited Ravenholm the first time, in this demo, you’re stuck with your pistol and SMG. Ravenholm in the original game was a goldmine for playing around with the Gravity Gun, so it’s kind of disappointing to not see the gun making an appearance in We Don’t Go to Ravenholm. That being said, this is only the demo, so fingers crossed that the Gravity Gun shows up later on.
According to 3stripedkilla, you’ll be getting about 35-40 minutes “more or less” of playtime with the demo, depending on your playstyle.
