Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing are set to reprise their roles in Practical Magic 2, but there’s one witch who won’t be joining the family reunion.
Evan Rachel Wood, who played the eldest daughter of Bullocks’ character in the 1998 supernatural romantic comedy, has taken to social media to confirm she will not appear in the sequel.
“I am getting asked about this a lot, so I’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the Practical Magic sequel. I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line,” she shared in an Instagram story over the weekend.
“I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”
Wood was only 11 when she appeared in Practical Magic but has remained active in the industry since, with recent notable roles in “Westworld” and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel, Practical Magic saw two witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love.
Practical Magic 2 is due out on September 18, 2026 via Warner Bros.
Joey King (The Conjuring), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”), Xolo Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”), and Solly McLeod (“House of the Dragon”) round out the sequel’s cast so far.
Susanne Bier (Bird Box) will direct from a script by Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, A Beautiful Mind), who co-wrote the original film.
