Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cristin Milioti in Talks to Star in A24’s ‘The Backrooms’

Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Venom: The Last Dance) and Cristin Milioti (“The Penguin,” “How I Met Your Mother”) are in talks to star in A24’s The Backrooms, Deadline reports.

The sci-fi horror is based on the viral found footage videos from teenage filmmaker Kane Parsons, who will make his feature directorial debut from a script by Roberto Patino (“Westworld,” “Sons of Anarchy”).

While the feature plot remains under wraps, the original short (streaming below) was set in the ’90s as a young filmmaker’s descent into another dimension leaves him wandering through a liminal office space that may or may not be home to otherworldly beings.

A24 is co-financing the project alongside Chernin Entertainment, with Atomic Monster and 21 Laps Entertainment producing.

James Wan and Michael Clear are producing for Atomic Monster, with Judson Scott executive producing and Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine are producing for 21 Laps, with Chris White executive producing.
