The Fun ‘Alien’ Easter Egg You Probably Missed in ‘Underwater’! [Image]

We’ve done a good deal of writing about this year’s Underwater here on Bloody Disgusting, with articles including an interview with director William Eubank about THAT monster in the final act and a rundown of ten interesting things we learned from the home video release’s bonus features. Not noted in the bonus features, however, is a fun little nod to Alien

Eubank took to Twitter on #AlienDay yesterday to reveal the Easter egg connection between Underwater and Alien, which comes in the form of a Weyland-Yutani branded seat belt that Vincent Cassel’s Captain Lucien uses as an arm sling. The Weyland-Yutani Corporation is of course the company behind, well, pretty much everything in the Alien franchise.

Underwater, like Alien, is a 20th Century Fox movie, and from what we gather, the Weyland-Yutani belt featured in Underwater may be an actual screen-used prop from the Fox vault!

Fans of Alien had been comparing Underwater to Ridley Scott’s horror classic from the very beginning, and indeed the two films do share much in common. But does this mean the movies actually take place within something of a shared cinematic universe? The Easter egg is likely just a fun nod more than any sort of legit connection, but it sure is fun to imagine!

Look closely…
