“American Horror Story” Season 10 Plans May Have to Change Due to Coronavirus Shutdown

Just a couple months ago, the theme for the upcoming tenth season of “American Horror Story” had been decided upon and shooting was getting ready to begin, but alas, everything changed in the direct wake of Ryan Murphy teasing a potential aquatic horror theme for the new season. Season 10’s fate now hangs in the balance, unlikely to arrive in 2020.

And once Murphy and his “American Horror Story” team are even able to resume production on the series, it sounds like they may have to change season ten’s theme up entirely.

A lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment; it was a weather-dependent show,” Murphy explains to The Wrap this week. “So now I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re going to do. I don’t know what I’m gonna do next with that show. I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait till next year to shoot this one.”

Murphy continued, “You know, nobody so far has called me up and said, ‘OK, we have a plan to move forward for shooting.’ So until that day, everybody is kind of on pause. I honestly don’t know. But it’s a great season and I know all the actors are chomping at the bit to get into it.”

Confirmed cast for the planned Season 10 included Macaulay Culkin, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter and Angelica Ross. We can only assume Murphy was planning on a summer shoot that would’ve allowed him to execute a theme that clearly has some kind of water element.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it. For now, all things “AHS” are on hold.
