After being the runner-up for many of this past year’s awards shows, Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds finally snagged one of its own. Over the weekend, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America presented The Outer Worlds with a Nebula Award for game writing, beating out Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds for the prize.
While the awards show initially only covered novels and short stories, it has expanded to include film and TV scripts, dramatic presentations and, as of 2018, game writing. Last year’s winner was the flawed but ultimately interesting Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
Available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, The Outer Worlds will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch on June 5.
The winner of the 2019 Nebula Award for Game Writing is the team behind The Outer Worlds! The winners include Leonard Boyarsky, Kate Dollarhyde, Paul Kirsch, Chris L’Etoile, Daniel McPhee, Carrie Patel, Nitai Poddar, Marc Soskin, and Megan Starks. #nebulas2020 @outerworlds
