‘The Conjuring 3’ Likely to Be Delayed by New Line Cinema

Theater chains continue to work toward reopening as all the major distributors continue to play musical chairs with their releases. There’s a domino effect to quite literally all aspects of the pandemic, leaving the entire entertainment business vulnerable with everything up in the air. Nobody knows for certain what’s going to happen and one wrong move could derail the entire industry.

Deadline has been keeping tabs on movement from inside of the studio “offices”, noting that New Line Cinema is on the brink of shifting The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It out of its September 11, 2020 slot all the way into 2021.

The site also notes that they hear that “after July 4, there will be another assessment by studios and the big circuits as to whether the current lineup of movies –Solstice Studios’ Unhinged, TriStar’s Broken Hearts Gallery, Warner Bros.’ Tenet and Disney’s Mulan– moves again as a block in another two-week delay for each film as more COVID-19 data unveils itself. As such it would not come as a shocker if the current August release schedule slides into September.”

Everything is a moving target, with one movie marketing boss recently stating, “These release dates are as firm as Jell-O.”

Watch this spot as things continue to unfold.

Directed this time by The Curse of La Llorona‘s Michael Chaves, “The Devil Made Me Do It reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.”

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, with Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is the seventh film in the Conjuring Universe, the largest horror franchise in history, which has grossed more than $1.8 billion worldwide. It includes the first two Conjuring films, as well as Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and Annabelle Comes Home.
