Cover Art Revealed for ’80s-Set Holiday Horror Novel ‘Secret Santa’; Plus Read an Excerpt [Exclusive]

New York Times best-seller Andrew Shaffer is taking us back to the ’80s for his horror-comedy novel Secret Santa, and we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek for you today.

Billed as a “horror for the holidays novel,” Secret Santa is said to mix Office Space and The Shining, “dressed up with holiday tinsel and set during the horror publishing boom of the ’80s.”

In Secret Santa

Out of work for months, editor Lussi Meyer is desperate to work anywhere in publishing. Prestigious Blackwood-Patterson isn’t the perfect fit, but a bizarre set of circumstances leads to her hire and a firm mandate: Lussi must find the next horror superstar to compete with Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Peter Straub. It’s the ’80s and horror is the hottest genre.

But as soon as she arrives, Lussi finds herself the target of her co-workers mean-spirited pranks. The hazing reaches its peak during the company’s annual Secret Santa gift exchange, when Lussi receives a demonic looking Christmas doll. Suddenly, her coworkers begin falling victim to a series of horrific accidents akin to a George Romero movie, leading Lussi to suspect her gift is involved. With the help of her former author, the flamboyant Fabien Nightingale, Lussi must track down her anonymous Secret Santa and figure out the true meaning of the cursed object in her possession before it destroys the company—and possesses her.

Quirk Books will release the 240-page novel on November 10th. You can check out the exclusive cover reveal below, and you can also read an 11-page excerpt by following this link.
