Survival Horror Racer ‘Deadlane’ Launches Kickstarter

When you think of racing and horror, not much comes to mind. But when you have games like Twisted Metal and Carmageddon, do you really need much more? Vscape Studios seems to think so, as they’ve launched a Kickstarter for their game, Deadlane, a title that looks to blend survival horror elements into its racing.

The story goes that Deadlane has you racing against five other contestants on hazard-filled tracks, with one of the players being The Chaser. As The Chaser, you have several advantages, including being able to drive faster, better handling, unlimited turbo boosting and other goodies. Sounds good, until you realize that as The Chaser, no matter where you place during a race, you die if you complete a lap. So, to prevent this, you’ve got to pass the curse of The Chaser over to other players before the lap ends.

Making matters more interesting is Telly, the deranged spirit of a young woman that wanders each track. Telly’s moves are procedurally-generated, and there are no preset attacks or fixed locations for her to adhere to. If you get too close to her, there’s a chance she’ll attack, causing you to be prime fodder for The Chaser, or to be left in the dust.

Because in the end, you still have a race to complete.

At the moment, the team is asking for $30,000USD to help the project along by September 17, with the aimed release date of October 1, 2021 on Steam. As is often the case, the team are offering a variety of backer rewards, depending on how much you contribute to the project.
