There’s Something Profoundly Wrong in the Bizarre Trailer for Charlie Kaufman’s ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’

“Maybe this is how it was always going to end.”

Written and directed by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), the Netflix film I’m Thinking of Ending Things is listed on IMDb as being a drama/horror/thriller, and the official trailer does indeed bring those genre vibes along with it. A trip to meet the parents gets impossibly strange in Kaufman’s latest trip into dark and cerebral territory, and this one just shot to the top of our must-watch list.

Netflix describes the film as “an exploration of regret, longing and the fragility of the human spirit,” and you can check out the official trailer and some new poster art down below.

“Despite second thoughts about their relationship, a young woman (Jessie Buckley) takes a road trip with her new boyfriend (Jesse Plemons) to his family farm. Trapped at the farm during a snowstorm with Jake’s mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis), the young woman begins to question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world.”

I’m Thinking of Ending Things comes to Netflix on September 4, 2020.

The film is based on the book by Iain Reid.
