Gruesome New Look at ‘Freaky’ Highlights the Cover of Fangoria’s Return Issue in October

Nothing says “Fangoria” quite like a gory still image from an upcoming horror movie, and indeed you’ll find one on the cover of the magazine’s brand new issue this October.

Bloody Disgusting has been provided with a first-look image at Issue #9’s cover tonight, showing off a gruesome beheading from Christopher Landon’s upcoming slasher Freaky. We had been promised the film was Rated R, and the gory image does that rating proud.

Check it out below!

Under new ownership, Fangoria returns in October as a print quarterly, with Phil Nobile Jr. as editor-in-chief and Meredith Borders as managing editor.

Nobile teases Issue #9, “Not gonna lie – we had 25 pages of Candyman coverage, and it created a crater in issue 9 when they moved the release date the other week. Thankfully, at the same time, Universal and Blumhouse dropped their trailer for Freaky and hooked us up with some great (and gory) content. We’ve got interviews with Freaky director/co-writer Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) and star Kathryn Newton, and a very special piece written by the film’s co-writer, Michael Kennedy (Attack of the Queerwolf podcast).

Jim Cummings wrote some liner notes for his Thunder Road follow-up, The Wolf of Snow Hollow (featuring Robert Forster’s final film performance). My bud Scott Wampler interviews Brandon Cronenberg about Possessor. We also have FX artist Dan Martin walk us through one of Possessor’s more unforgettable kills.

Meagan Navarro covers the way streaming is saving our horror-loving asses this Halloween, and she also delves into The Haunting of Bly Manor. Not coincidentally, Wampler jumps on the phone with Mike Flanagan for a quick chat about the new series.

“Meagan also covers Amazon’s Welcome To The Blumhouse, and Siddhant Adlakha digs deeper into that event’s film Evil Eye with star Sunita Mani and Sarita Choudhury, and filmmakers Madhuri Shekar and Elan and Rajeev Dassani.

Sean Abley – Gay of the Dead himself! – returns to Fango to defend the oh-so-problematic Haute Tension; Alexandra Heller-Nicholas talks 12-Hour Shift with writer/director Brea Grant; Anya Stanley explores the evolution of the Romeroverse heroine. We trace the connection between hip hop and horror, including a new interview with the Daveed Diggs-fronted horrorcore group Clipping (who are awesome, I’m late to learn).

“Plus Barbara Crampton on working during the pandemic, new fiction from Clay McLeod Chapman, and four Fango editors (Tony Timpone, Michael Gingold, Chris Alexander, myself) remember the OG, Robert “Uncle Bob” Martin, who passed away this summer. AND MORE, as they say.”

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
