Filming Has Wrapped on ‘Scream 5’; Coming to Theaters in One Year, Two Months!

Filming has wrapped on the relaunch of the Scream film franchise, Fandango reports this afternoon, which means we’re one step closer to the return of Ghostface and the gang.

Spyglass and Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide on January 14, 2022, just about one year and two months away from this very day. The new movie, which doesn’t yet have an official title beyond Scream – we’re calling it Scream 5, as it’s a sequel to all the previous movies – was filmed during the ongoing pandemic in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The planned January release may seem a little odd for a big time horror movie such as this one, as it’s often considered a “dump month” for horror, but keep in mind that the first three Scream movies were released in December and February. The most recent installment in the franchise, Wes Craven’s Scream 4 back in 2011, brought Ghostface back to theaters in April.

It will likely be a while before we have a trailer or the first batch of images from Scream 5, but we can expect that 2020 will be a big year on the Scream front. So stay tuned for more!

Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Mason Gooding (Let It Snow), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Love”) and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) recently joined an ensemble that also includes Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette and Courteney Cox who will return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, as well as new cast members Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), Melissa Barrera (“In The Heights”) and Jenna Ortega (“You”). Marley Shelton is also returning as Scream 4 character Deputy Judy Hicks

Scream is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock).

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
