Doug Crane, who worked in the animation department on several classic series, passed away from cancer on December 17, we’ve learned this week. He was 85.
“Doug was a wonderful, kind, considerate person, a warm and comfortable friend and an amazing father and grandfather who will be missed more than can be put into words,” wrote Crane’s daughter, Rose-Ellen, in a Facebook post.
Crane worked in the animation department on the cult classic Heavy Metal (1981), not to mention the “Godzilla” animated series, which ran from 1978-79.
His legacy is far greater as he also worked on the 1960’s “Spider-Man” animated series, as well as 1980’s classics “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe“, “She-Ra: Princess of Power“, and “Bravestarr,” not to mention the film Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.
Variety notes that Crane is survived by his children Maureen, Erin, Thomas, Colleen, Caitlin, Kevin and Rose-Ellen, as well as his grandchildren. Crane was predeceased by two days by his wife of 61 years, Maureen, and his son, Douglas Jr., in 2018.
