Stylized Survival Horror Game ‘Saturnalia’ Aims For 2021 Release

With Christmas right around the corner, it makes sense to delve into the origins of it being celebrated on December 25. Namely, it was due to the fact that the festival of Saturnalia was held around the same time.

So, why the history lesson? Well, you can thank Italian indie studio Santa Ragione and publisher The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, as they’ve released a new trailer for their upcoming survival horror adventure game, Saturnalia. And as you might expect, it’s indeed based on the Saturnalia holiday.

The story for Saturnalia takes place in a rural village on the island of Sardinia, which carries a fair bit of its own ancient culture. As a result, the mostly abandoned village has a peculiar thing with shadows, and the monsters that dwell within them. They also just so happen to be after your group of playable characters.

Harkening back to the granddaddy Survival Horror game of them all, Sweet Home, if one of these characters meets their demise, they’re gone for good. So, you’d better use your only weapon, your light, wisely. That’ll be difficult, given the ever-changing maze that is this village. Depending on who survives, you’ll be treated to one of the title’s multiple endings.

Saturnalia is listed as coming next year, so keep an eye out for it on the Epic Games Store.
