“The Walking Dead”: Scott Gimple Teases the Return of a Villain and Some Sort of Comedy Project

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” universe isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, even if the main series is on its way out after the upcoming eleventh season. For starters, a spinoff series centered on Daryl and Carol is on the way, with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride starring, and so too is an “expanded universe” anthology series titled “Tales of the Walking Dead.”

The latter project has been described as “an episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences,” and we’ve also been told that AMC and Scott Gimple are “developing a number of other new and innovative projects grounded in The Walking Dead universe.”

During the first-ever “Walking Dead Holiday Special” just last night, Gimple teased some of those upcoming projects, though it’s hard to tell precisely what he was referring to.

“We’re working on something with one of the great Walking Dead villains of all time, and we’re working on a straight Walking Dead comedy right now,” Gimple announced.

He added, “We’re not making fun of our world, but it’s more of a comedic take on the world.”

Is Gimple referring to episodes of the aforementioned “Tales of the Walking Dead” anthology or is he talking about other spinoff projects? We’ll keep you posted as we learn more…
