Director Steven Kostanski Talks Potential Sequels to ‘The Void’, ‘Leprechaun Returns’ and ‘Psycho Goreman’

Known to horror fans for previously directing The Void and Leprechaun Returns, Steven Kostanski is back this weekend with new movie Psycho Goreman, and Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast sat down with Kostanski to talk about what’s coming next.

For starters, is there any chance we’ll get a sequel to 2016’s The Void, a gory creature feature than won over the hearts of horror fans? You probably shouldn’t hold your breath.

Kostanski tells The Boo Crew, “I feel like we won’t be seeing [a sequel to The Void] in the foreseeable future just because of some of the legal stuff it’s tied up with. Jared and I have talked about what follow-up versions would be but the pure logistics of doing a follow-up is too difficult to unravel at this time.”

Not to say it will never happen but I don’t think the immediate future is realistic for it,” he adds.

And what about a potential sequel to Leprechaun Returns, which returned the franchise to its original continuity? Nothing seems to be in the works, but Kostanski is open to coming back. He tells The Boo Crew, “I would gladly do another one if they asked me. I had a lot of fun making that movie.”

And that brings us to Kostanski’s new film Psycho Goreman, which could be primed to spawn a franchise of its own. It all depends, of course, on how well the movie is received.

Kostanski explains, “The impression I’m getting is that I better jump on subsequent versions of Psycho Goreman. I have a plan I am working on – some kind of follow up, I can’t really get into what that will be yet because it’s so early – we kind of have to wait to see how the movie does. I’ve already – the distributors are all excited for follow-ups to this and they see the potential. I’ve slowly started hashing out what that might be. There will be future versions of PG, future adventures, well see what exactly that entails.”

He continues, joking, “Somehow we have to get to PG13 – whether it’s 11 more movies or 11 episodes of a TV show that get us to a 13th movie. We’ll see.”

Currently, Kostanski is working on Syfy’s “Day of the Dead” television series.

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
