All the Gory Bits From the Red Band ‘Mortal Kombat’ Trailer Highlighted in These HD Screenshots!

One thing that’s crystal clear about the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie is that it’s going to be incredibly gory, true to the video games and rated “R” for being precisely that.

The trailer that was released this morning was indeed packed with the kind of gory gruesomeness you’d expect to find in a slasher movie, from Sub-Zero freezing and ripping off Jax’s arms to Kano ripping out the heart of a beast. And then there’s of course that moment where Sub-Zero turns Scorpion’s blood into a dagger, which he then stabs his adversary with.

Fatalities and rated “R” violence were always promised from the James Wan-produced movie from the beginning, and director Simon McQuoid speaks on that in a new chat with IGN.

“The Fatalities were always in from the get-go, there was never any question from anyone at all. There was no resistance from the studio. They wanted them, I wanted them,” McQuoid tells IGN. “There’s a fatality from Kano, he ripped someone’s heart out. But what was important to me was that even when the Fatalities arrived, we couldn’t just do a Fatality and have it mean nothing. It actually becomes an important ingredient in the rhythm of the action scene.”

You’ve probably watched the trailer multiple times by now, but we wanted to highlight those gory bits for ya. It’s what we do. You can satiate your bloodlust with the gallery below!

Mortal Kombat comes to theaters and HBO Max on April 16, 2021.
