While we wait for his new psychological thriller Last Night in Soho, Deadline reports today that Edgar Wright‘s next movie will be an adaptation of Stephen King for Paramount.
Wright is on board to develop and direct a new take on King’s The Running Man!
King’s novel, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, was released in 1982, loosely adapted into the same-titled Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film in 1987.
Deadline notes that Wright’s version, being written by Michael Bacall, is a new adaptation that will stick closer to King’s source material, rather than a remake of the ’87 movie.
Wikipedia recaps King’s 1982 novel, “The story follows protagonist Ben Richards as he participates in the game show The Running Man in which contestants, allowed to go anywhere in the world, are chased by “Hunters” employed to kill them.”
Producers on the new movie include Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon and Nira Park.
