“Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”: BD Wong and Ming-Na Wen Join the Cast of Animated Series

The Gremlins franchise is back in the news this week with Mountain Dew’s new commercial featuring Gizmo, Zach Galligan, and even Billy Peltzer’s daughter, but don’t forget that an animated series is on the way this year. It’s titled “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai,” and it’s coming to HBO Max. Today brings some fresh casting news courtesy of Variety.

The project is a prequel to the two films, with the half-hour series set in 1920s Shanghai and telling the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met the young Mogwai called Gizmo.

Variety breaks down the cast today:

  • Ming Na-Wen as Fong Wing
  • BD Wong as Hon Wing
  • James Hong as Grandpa Wing
  • Izaac Wang as Sam Wing
  • A.J. LoCascio as Gizmo
  • Gabrielle Green as Elle
  • Matthew Rhys as Riley Greene

Head over to Variety for character breakdowns and more.

“Along with teenage street thief Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”

The series hails from Warner Bros. Animation and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV.
