‘Left 4 Dead 2’ Finally Receives Uncut Version in Germany

It’s a case of “better late than never” for German fans of Left 4 Dead 2, as the country has finally given the uncut version of the game a thumbs up over a decade after its release. German players can now download a free DLC that will uncensor their version of the game.

As most gamers know, in order for games to be sold in Germany, they must pass through the Entertainment Software Self-Regulation, or USK. Those that don’t meet the requirements are refused a rating, or subject to censorship. This is where everyone nods and says to themselves “Wolfenstein 3-D“.

Anyway, original German copies of the game were heavily modified to remove blood, gore and offending content that would otherwise block the game from sale. And much like what they were able to do in Australia with its ratings board in 2014, Valve recently resubmitted L4D2 to German censors, and it was granted a pass in its uncut form.

“We are happy to let you know that as a result the uncut international version of Left 4 Dead 2 is now available to our customers in Germany.”

In the meantime, it remains to be seen if the upcoming spiritual successor to the L4D series in Turtle Rock Studios’ Back 4 Blood will pass unscathed once it’s released on June 18, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
