“Dexter”: Jennifer Carpenter Will Be Back in Showtime’s Revival

Michael C. Hall stars in Showtime‘s upcoming revival of “Dexter,” a continuation of the original series that will essentially allow Showtime to make up for the show’s original finale. And we’ve learned via Deadline that Jennifer Carpenter (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), who played Dexter’s sister Debra Morgan in the original series, is also coming back for the revival.

Deadline explains, “Carpenter played Dexter’s foster sister Debra, a homicide detective who used her brother’s skills to solve murders. She was killed in the series finale.”

John Lithgow will also be making an appearance as Arthur Mitchell a.k.a. the “Trinity Killer.” How are these dead characters going to be brought back to life? Via flashbacks, it seems.

“As all Dexter fans know, we saw the end of the Trinity Killer, so that by definition means it’s a flashback,” Lithgow told Deadline this week. “It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang—including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and Clyde Phillips.”

Jamie Chung (“Lovecraft Country”) joins Hall in the revival, with the cast also including Clancy BrownJulia JonesAlano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott.

“Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.”

Clyde Phillips is back as showrunner for the 10-episode revival, arriving in Fall 2021.

“Dexter” ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2013.
