“Dune: The Sisterhood”: Spinoff Series Still Planned for HBO Max

Originally announced back in 2019, this year’s Denis Villeneuve-directed film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune is getting a spinoff series with “Dune: The Sisterhood,” a project that is very much still on the menu for HBO Max. Announced by Variety, in fact, the series has a new showrunner, with Diane Ademu-John (“The Haunting of Bly Manor”) stepping in.

Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) had previously been set as the project’s showrunner. Ademu-John will now serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the planned series.

Variety details, “Dune: The Sisterhood is told through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune. It will serve as a prequel to the films.”

Denis Villeneuve is directing the pilot for the Legendary Television series.

The Dune movie, meanwhile, comes to theaters and HBO Max on October 22.
