Heading into the long 4th of July weekend, we learned the bummer news that HBO has decided not to order up a second season of “Lovecraft Country,” which means we’ll never know where the story was going to go beyond the surprising season one finale. Right?
Well, sort of…
Taking to Twitter this weekend, creator Misha Green shared an early “story bible” for the once-planned second season, which the team had dubbed “Lovecraft Country: Supremacy.”
“Season 2 begins in a new world,” the bible begins, “and that new world is a country that sits precisely where the United States used to sit. Welcome to the Sovereign States of America.”
This new country was going to be broken up into four distinct zones: Tribal Nations of the West, The Whitelands, New Negro Republic, and Jefferson Commonwealth.
Most interestingly, the new world was going to be overrun by… zombies?!
A follow-up tweet explains that The Whitelands is “a territory that is completely overrun by zombies – most of them of the slower variety with pockets of fast-moving zombies.”
“One price of “The Origin” spell was the creation of a zombie population,” Green explains in further detail. “Years into the epidemic, a joint effort was undertaken to corral the zombies into one location in the center of America. The Whitelands now function as a dangerous border between the South, West, and Northern territories.”
It sounds like Season 2 was going to blow the world of “Lovecraft Country” wide open, with Green and the team extending the story far beyond the borders of Matt Ruff’s source novel.
Alas…
