Altered Innocence Travels to ‘After Blue (Dirty Paradise)’ Ahead of TIFF Premiere

The Toronto International Film Festival hype has hit overdrive now that the Midnight Madness titles have been announced.

One of the coolest films set to make its North American Premiere is After Blue (Dirty Paradise), a nightmarish sci-fi horror fantasy from French filmmaker Bertrand Mandico.

Variety reports today that Altered Innocence has picked up North American rights to the film, which also just had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.

Bloody Disgusting recently scored an exclusive look at the English-language teaser trailer that’s nothing short of spectacular, sparkling with glitter and gold and dropping viewers into what looks like a maddening lucid nightmare you won’t be to wake up from.

It’s hard to discern a plot from the teaser, but TIFF describes the film as an “erotic sci-fi acid western” that’s about a hairdresser and her teenage daughter who hunt a notorious killer.

“In a distant future on a wild planet, Roxy, a loner teenager, frees a criminal buried in the sand. Once free, she spreads death. Held responsible, Roxy and her mother Zora are banished by their community and condemned to hunt the murderer. They will soon wander in the uncharted territories of their dirty paradise…”

After Blue is a virgin planet from another galaxy where only women can survive in the midst of harmless flora and fauna. “The story is of a punitive expedition.”

TIFF’s Midnight Madness is going to bring the chaos from Sept. 9-18.
