‘Halloween Kills’ Was the “Number 1 Non-Live Event Premiere” in the History of Peacock Thus Far

The Peacock streaming service scored big when Blumhouse and Universal decided to bring Halloween Kills home on the same day it released into theaters, as Peacock is the only place you can stream the franchise’s latest movie. The film has to date scared up just under $100 million in theaters, and over 1 million households watched on Peacock in its first weekend.

How is it stacking up against other Peacock premieres? Keeping in mind that NBCUniversal’s streaming service only launched nationally on July 15, 2020, just over one year ago, an earnings call from Comcast this week reveals that Halloween Kills is a massive hit for Peacock.

From The Hollywood Reporter this morning, “On the earnings call on Thursday, CEO Brian Roberts touted the success of Halloween Kills, saying that the day-and-date film was the “No. 1 non-live event premiere in Peacock’s history.” And he touted the success of NBC’s La Brea, calling it a new hit that has been the “best-performing new show on Peacock.”

Of course, it’s no big surprise that Halloween Kills is the most-watched movie premiere in Peacock’s history, as it’s to date the biggest new movie to come exclusively to Peacock. The first film was a huge box office success in 2018, guarantee that Halloween Kills was going to be a smash hit for Peacock. But don’t expect to see Halloween Ends taking the same approach.

Peacock has reportedly added “a few million more subs” this quarter, with Comcast reporting “$230 million in revenue and a $520 million adjusted loss” this morning.

Head over to The Hollywood Reporter for a full breakdown.
