Gael Garcia Bernal Will Star in Marvel’s Werewolf-Themed Halloween Special for Disney+

Announced over the summer, a Halloween special from Marvel is headed to Disney+ next year, with the project “said to be centered on a werewolf character.” Naturally, this is leading to speculation that the project centers on the Werewolf by Night character, though that has not been confirmed at this time. Today, however, does bring a nice little update.

The Wrap reports that Gael Garcia Bernal, who was most recently seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Old, has been set to star in the as-yet untitled Halloween Special.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

The Werewolf by Night nickname actually applies to two different Marvel Comics characters, first Jack Russell back in the 1970s and more recently new character Jack Gomez.

Wikipedia explains, “Jack Russell is a descendant of the mystically-altered offshoot of humans known as Lycanthropes. During the night of the full moon and the two nights surrounding it he is forced to mutate into a werewolf, a large, powerful form which is a hybrid of human and wolf, and loses his human intellect. Through a series of events, he is also capable of mutating voluntarily outside of the full moon, at which time he remains in control.”

Notably, Issue #32 of the Werewolf by Night comic series features the first appearance from Moon Knight, a character Marvel will soon be bringing to the screen in his own series.
