‘Ultra’ Marathon Runner Involved in a Deadly Race

Tristar Pictures has preemptively acquired Ultra, a survival thriller spec script by Colin Bannon, reports Deadline, which names Squid Games for the recent appetite for survival projects and hilariously notes that Bannon wrote this before the Netflix series (L.O.L.).

Digressing, the story details are slim, but very cool. Apparently, the protagonist is an ultramarathon runner involved in a deadly race. I guess you can say it’s Squid Games-ish, but I’d say this sounds more like Battle Royale or The Most Dangerous Game, which was also recently remade. The indie The Human Race also tackled this very concept well with a reality show theme.

Jake Scott is directing Ultra with plans to go into production by the middle of next year.

Sugar 23’s Sukee Chew is producing. More soon.
