‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ – Official Synopsis Details the 50-Years-Later Plot and Teases Sally Hardesty’s Return!

Netflix made the surprise announcement that the Fede Alvarez-produced Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original classic, will be slicing its way onto the streaming service on February 18, 2022, and we were even more surprised when the official teaser trailer dropped over the weekend. If you missed it, you can preview Leatherface’s return here!

In the wake of that very first teaser trailer, the official logline and synopsis for the new movie have arrived today, confirming that next year’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre indeed takes place in the present day. Leatherface has been in hiding for “nearly 50 years,” making the movie a decades-later sequel only to Tobe Hooper’s original Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The synopsis also officially acknowledges the return of original heroine Sally Hardesty, with actress Olwen Fouéré (Mandy) taking over the role from the late Marilyn Burns.

Here’s the new logline and full synopsis…

“After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.”

“Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. But their dream soon turns into a waking nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer whose blood-soaked legacy continues to haunt the area’s residents — including Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the sole survivor of his infamous 1973 massacre who’s hell-bent on seeking revenge.”

Olwen Fouéré (Mandy) is Sally Hardesty and Mark Burnham (Lowlife) is Leatherface.

David Blue Garcia (Tejano) directed the movie for Legendary, which was written by Chris Thomas Devlin and filmed last year. The film is a sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original classic.

Alvarez is producing with Bad Hombre’s Rodolfo Sayagues, alongside Kim Henkel (co-writer of the 1974 film), Ian Henkel and Pat Cassidy, who are producing via their Exurbia Films.
