LGBTQ Horror Movie ‘Hypochondriac’ Sets Summer 2022 Release Date

XYZ Films brings SXSW horror movie Hypochondriac to theaters and at-home VOD this summer, announcing today a theatrical release July 29 and On Demand release August 4.

Addison Heimann wrote and directed Hypochondriac.

“Will, a young Hispanic gay potter, is one gregarious guy. His boss is terrible, but he’s got a great boyfriend and a great job. Unfortunately, behind that veneer is a dark past of violence and mental illness that he is desperate to keep hidden. When his bipolar mother comes out of the woodwork after ten years of silence, he begins exhibiting unexplainable symptoms and spirals into an obsession, determined to solve this mystery of his own.”

The cast includes Zach Villa, Devon Graye, Paget Brewster, Marlene Forte, Madeline Zima, Yumarie Morales, and Chris Doubek.

Trace Thurman wrote in his SXSW review for BD, “Hypochondriac is a solid, if not particularly innovative addition to the mental health horror sub-genre, with a queer twist thrown into the mix. It is that queer component that adds something new to the tropes we’ve seen a hundred times before (you’ll get to see a demon perform anilingus, so that’s fun) but this is more an interesting wrinkle in well-worn territory as opposed to a genuine subversion of genre tropes.”
