‘Shin Ultraman’ Rises to Fight Giant Monsters in New Teaser for Live Action Movie [Video]

In the wake of Shin Godzilla (aka Godzilla Resurgence) back in 2016, filmmaking duo Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi announced a couple years ago that they’re next giving a similar treatment to Ultraman with the upcoming Shin Ultraman. Today, a new teaser has arrived!

The film looks to be taking a very similar approach to Shin Godzilla, focusing heavily on the politics of dealing with the sudden appearance of giant monsters. Bring. It. On.

Takumi Saitoh is playing the main character. In addition, Masami Nagasawa, Hidetoshi Nishijima, Daiki Arioka, Akari Hayami, and Tetsushi Tanaka star in Shin Ultraman.

Ultraman is, per his official bio, “An alien superhero from Nebula M78.” He first appeared in the ’60s Japanese TV series “Ultraman,” fighting various invading monsters and aliens.

In Shin Ultraman, “Giant unknown creatures have appeared one after another, and their existence becomes everyday. The Japanese government, which has reached its limit because conventional weapons are completely useless, gathers specialists for measures against the beasts and establishes the Special Countermeasures Office for the Beasts. A silver giant suddenly appears from outside the atmosphere while the crisis of the evil beast is approaching.”

Shin Ultraman will be produced by Toho Co., Khara Inc. and Tsuburaya Productions.
