Announced for “Ghostbusters Day” today, a brand new “Ghostbusters” animated series is coming soon, set up over at Netflix with Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) producing!
Variety broke the new this morning, additionally reporting that the new animated series hails from Sony Pictures Animation, with Gil Kenan also on board to executive produce.
The website notes, “Exact plot details on the new animated series are currently being kept under wraps. No writer is attached at the time of this publishing. Production will be handled by Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc., which is based at Sony’s Columbia Pictures.”
As we learned earlier this year, a fifth Ghostbusters live action movie is also in the works, and we could learn more about that one during “Ghostbusters Day” today. Stay tuned.
The Ghostbusters franchise has of course made a mark on the world of animation in the past, with “The Real Ghostbusters” in the 1980s and “Extreme Ghostbusters” in the 1990s.
