Horror Comedy Game Boy Game ‘Batty Zabella’ Available Physically From the Retro Room Games [Trailer]

Nintendo’s classic Game Boy is no stranger to developers releasing new games (such as Deadeus) on the now 34 year old hardware. The latest comes from independent development studio The Retro Room Games and developer Ice Cold Blood, who have ported over their point-and-click horror comedy game Batty Zabella to the classic grey brick, and can now be purchased in cartridge form over on The Retro Room Games’ store.

An adventure game that blends elements of comedy and horror, Batty Zabella stars the titular heroine who needs help saving her family and getting rid of phantoms. That involves plenty of sassy quips and double entendres from Zabella, who’s clearly inspired by Elvira.

The game plays out much like the classic Shadowgate on the NES (or more accurately, Shadowgate Classic on the Game Boy Color). You use the D-pad to move a cursor around the screen, moving over objects to get a response from Zabella, indicating what you should do next. Batty Zabella seems to blend horror and comedy quite nicely, never taking itself too seriously.

The physical cartridge version comes complete with the game cart, full-color manual, and game box. And if you’d like to “try before you buy”, you can always head on over to Ice Cold Blood’s itch.io page and play Batty Zabella in your browser. You can also buy it digitally from there.
