Throwback PS1-Era Psychological Horror Game ‘The Tartarus Key’ Launches May 31 for PC, Consoles [Trailer]

Announced way back in 2021, Vertical Reach and publisher Armor Games Studios have announced that The Tartarus Key will finally be launching later this month on May 31 for for Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Inspired by “the classics of the genre”, The Tartarus Key is a first-person narrative thriller centered on a woman named Alex. The last thing Alex remembers is being alone in her apartment. Suddenly, she’s awoken in a mysterious mansion, with a stranger’s voice crackling through a walkie-talkie and cameras following her every move. When Alex realizes she’s not the only one caught up in this nightmare, she sets off to discover who—or what—is lurking in the shadows.

As Alex, you’ll have to explore every corridor of the mansion, and escape the mansion’s rooms using your wits. Along the way, you’ll meet up with other captives, who are relying on you to survive, and unlock the mansion’s many riddles. The Tartarus Key features three different endings, and rather than rely on combat or chase sequences, focuses instead on puzzles and plot.

Currently, the game has a demo available for you to try on Steam ahead of its launch.
