It’s the first full week of June and summer is upon us, with six brand new horror movies headed our way this week. Best of all, they’ll all be available to watch from the comfort of home.
Here’s all the new horror releasing June 6 – June 11, 2023!

First up, we just premiered the brand new SCREAMBOX Original documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story on Bloody Disgusting’s SCREAMBOX yesterday in celebration of #RobertEnglundDay, so check that out if you haven’t yet!
The documentary was shot over the course of two years, highlighting the life and career of the classically trained actor and director. Featuring interviews with Robert Englund and his wife Nancy, as well as fellow genre icons Lin Shaye, Eli Roth, Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, Adam Green, Bill Moseley, Heather Langenkamp & more, the documentary follows Englund’s career from his early days in Buster and Billie and Stay Hungry (starring with Arnold Schwarzenegger) to his big break in the 1980s as Freddy Krueger, his directorial debut with the 1988 horror film 976-EVIL, and his current roles such as Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things”.
Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares looks beyond the film credits and examines Robert Englund’s incredible career and his navigation through the cutthroat world of Hollywood.
Also unleashed onto VOD yesterday was the indie horror movie Pollen, said to be “an unsettling, elevated horror exploring workplace/family trauma and sexual assault.”
The movie tells the story of Hera, a recent college-grad trying to climb the corporate ladder, who is sexually assaulted by her boss and gaslighted by her coworkers. Her life spirals out of control as she experiences strange occurrences and is stalked by a terrifying tree monster.
“Pollen is not just a horror film, it is an important lesson on how horrible people can be. It’s a warning that shows the serious issues of sexual assault, toxicity in the workplace and trauma,” says writer and director DW Medoff. “The story is disturbing, but it’s a reminder of the harsh reality that these awful people ruin people’s lives and get away with it constantly. Hopefully, this film will spark conversations and bring attention to this important issue.”
The final new horror release for Tuesday, June 6 was First Contact, a sci-fi/horror creature feature that comes courtesy of prolific indie filmmaker Bruce Wemple (Monstrous).
First Contact is now available on VOD outlets.
The film stars Anna Shields and promises “strong practical effects.”
“First Contact tells of estranged adult siblings, Casey and Dan, who travel to their late scientist father’s farmhouse to make sense of his incomplete work. They soon learn that their father’s work was far more dangerous than they could ever imagine: An evil entity, buried in time and space for millions of years, has been released and has begun wreaking havoc on the locals.
“One by one the bodies start to pile up. Now, Dan and Casey must figure out the secrets of this extra – dimensional monster before it’s too late.”
Death is a disease that must be cured in The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster, a modern reinterpretation of Mary Shelley’s seminal novel, Frankenstein.
RLJE Films will release the film in theaters and on VOD beginning Friday, June 9.
In the film, “Vicaria is a brilliant teenager who believes death is a disease that can be cured. After the brutal and sudden murder of her brother, she embarks on a dangerous journey to bring him back to life. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster thematically challenges our ideas of life and death.
“Bomani J. Story, the film’s writer and director, crafts a thrilling tale about a family that, despite the terrors of systemic pressure, will survive and be reborn again.”
Laya DeLeon Hayes (“The Equalizer”), Denzel Whitaker (“Black Panther”), Chad L. Coleman (“The Walking Dead”), Reilly Brooke Stith, and Keith Holliday star.
Ted Geoghegan (Mohawk, We Are Still Here) is back with Shudder‘s supernatural horror movie Brooklyn 45, and the film will begin streaming only on Shudder on Friday, June 9.
In the film, “Friday, December 27, 1945. Five military veterans gather in the ornate parlour of a Brooklyn brownstone. Best friends since childhood, they’ve reunited to support their troubled host – but when his invitation for cocktails turns into an impromptu séance, the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all-too-literal.
“Trapped in their host’s lounge, the Greatest Generation now finds themselves put to one final test…with their only route to freedom being more bloodshed.”
Brooklyn 45 stars Anne Ramsay (A League of Their Own), Ezra Buzzington (The Hills Have Eyes), Jeremy Holm (The Ranger), Larry Fessenden (We Are Still Here), Ron E. Rains (“The Onion’s Film Standard“) and Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie’s Halloween).
Director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight, Long Lost) is back with She Came from the Woods, an ’80s-set summer camp slasher movie that comes home this week.
She Came from the Woods debuts at home on Tubi beginning Saturday, June 10.
The film follows “a group of counsellors who accidentally unleash an ancient evil spirit on the last night of a summer camp. As the situation turns bloody, the group is forced to confront what stories are worth telling and what secrets are worth keeping.”
She Came from the Woods stars Cara Buono (“Stranger Things”), William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Demon Knight, VFW, The Grudge), Clare Foley (Sinister), Spencer List (Good Trouble), Michael Park (“Stranger Things”) and Tyler Elliot Burke (The Punisher).
