A Killer Santa is a holiday horror staple, and upcoming slasher comedy Santastein aims to take it to another level by adding a Frankenstein-like twist and setting the mayhem in the non-wintry state of Florida. And its set to make its debut at this year’s Popcorn Frights Film Festival.
Bloody Disgusting has been provided exclusive images and a clip of Old Saint Nick’s resurrection.
Santastein “puts the axe back in Xmas centers on Max, who, when he was only six years old, accidentally burned Santa to a crisp on Christmas Eve. 12 years later, Max attempts to raise Santa from the dead in order to fix his past mistakes and restore the Christmas spirit. But he soon realizes that the creature he has created is a bloodthirsty killer – and it’s headed straight for his friend’s Christmas party! Buckle in for some bloody holiday cheer that will leave you having a ho-ho-whole lot of fun!”
Check out the clip below of Max attempting to course-correct his childhood mistake by bringing Santa Claus back to life, though something tells us Santa won’t be happy to be undead. Miami doesn’t get snow come the holiday season, but this killer Santa seems the type to paint the town red for Christmas.
Filmmakers Manuel Camilion & Benjamin Edelman wrote and directed Santastein.
Camilion and Edelman said in a statement, “We took on the crazy task of making a Christmas horror movie in Florida, so we can’t wait to premiere right here in our backyard to Florida horror fans at the amazing Popcorn Frights Film Festival – and show everyone a little bit of that Miami snow!”
The Miami-shot slasher stars Jared Korotkin, Michael Vitovich, Ophelia Rivera, and Kaylie Heyner.
Santastein will have its World Premiere on Saturday, August 12, during the ninth annual Popcorn Frights Film Festival in Fort Lauderdale. Popcorn Frights Film Festival will take place August 10-20 in Fort Lauderdale, South Beach, and virtually nationwide. Tickets are available Here.
